Better Windows OS

It looks like that I have now found my OS replacement: the Directory Opus 8, developed by an Australian company GPSoftware. Their Web site can use some help considering that their shell product is so usable (though it can use some interface tweaks so as not to overwhelm the users with features - but in the same time not hide features for users)

When Windows is first installed, the taskbar is set to display at the bottom of the screen, but like most users, it soons becomes so crowded that it becomes unusable.

I have been placing the taskbar along the left rail for quite a while now. It's not only more usable (you identify applications by their icon anyhow) it also saves more screen real estate (assuming that you are not using an LCD in portrait mode).

One improvement that Microsoft can probably provide is if I have multiple instance of Explorer, IE or Firefox open, I can selectively colorize the application from default taskbar color (i use the silver scheme) to another -- similar to color-labeling a folder on the Mac -- that way they will be much more identifiable without even looking at the name.

I wonder why the folders do not have similar features also.
